In 2016, Fullscreen helped Disney launch Mickey Mouse’s presence on social media, creating a wide variety of content for the Mickey Mouse Instagram and Facebook accounts. On this project I was responsible for using assets from Mickey Mouse cartoons and mashing them up them to create entirely new scenes unique for social. To adapt the original animated source material I combined assets from the cartoons (created by the Disney animation team) with new illustrated character designs that I would create—including props, background elements and lighting effects—to make the pieces unique and special. In some cases I could take a Mickey or a Donald from one scene and place them into another; in most cases I would need to add original faces, hands, outfits—and sometimes entire backgrounds—for the finished product.
In 2019 I began work as lead designer and de facto art director on the account. I was responsible for working with the account team to develop concepts, providing feedback to the other creatives, and regularly meeting with client teams at Disney to review the work and develop strategies to improve our content. In the years since launching the account, Mickey has gained almost 3 million followers on Instagram, and his Facebook page has over 14 million likes.
